India is a rising star in global health care industry. Government of India (GoI) has been doing a lot in promoting medical tourism in the country. GoI started new category of medical visa for foreigners, publishes medical tourism brochure and CDs.
Below are few more initiative taken by GoI.
Government has identified Knee and hip replacement, cardiac surgeries and treatment of neurological disorders – as three specialised fields as focus areas to attract international medical tourists to India.
Government is going to promote 13 JCI-accredited hospitals as the best places for treatment and about 70 NABH-accredited hospitals to act as the next range of best hospitals.
Government is also looking at the possibility of having a special section in the Tourism Department website giving information, including names of top doctors and their contacts, to give a further boost to medical tourism.
THE FACT: Medical tourists spending as much as US$ 15,000 to 20,000 each as against a normal tourists’ expenditure of US$ 1,500 in India.
No wonder why Government should not take positive initiatives to grow this industry segment. India is now a known as preferred medical tourism for its World Class quality, Outstanding services, Low Waiting Period and the most significant, Low Cost.
