Abdul Latif, 62, a major general in war-torn Iraq in the 80s and 90s, is quite used to injuries.
But even that hadn’t prepared him for the rude jolt his doctor in Baghdad gave him a few months ago — that he had a cancerous growth in the middle ear which could spread to the brain and other organs. The doctor recommended an immediate surgery which would mean losing his right ear and part of his cheek.
Fortunately, Latif travelled to Bangalore for a second opinion and discovered, to his delight, that the growth inside his ear was benign and not cancerous.
