Hi Roger,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Bringing quality healthcare to the Caribbean sounds wonderful - as a medical travel company based in Miami, the Caribbean would be easy for us to promote and obviously an ideal location for us to facilitate. Look forward to hearing more about it.

Also, a nursing school is ALWAYS a great idea. Good nurses are in such short supply.

Best,
Michele

Delighted to hear from you Roger.

We are all learning new tricks in this business and making new contacts.

In the 1990's I did the USMLE and spent some time in New York City, at MSKCC - I have many fond memories. I can say however that there isn't much going on in a European/UK hospital that fundamentally you wouldn't recognise or, I suspect, feel professionally comfortable with.

In some ways accreditation mirrors the wider medical tourism experiment. So many people are arguing that having one's care take place in the Caribbean, Singapore or Malta than staying in the USA, the UK or Japan and indeed may be better- likewise, it may be that the healthcare assessment systems that have grown up outside of North America are perhaps just as capable of establishing if a hospital or clinic is safe and fit for purpose. If one scheme offers cost advantages over another to a hospital, again the same rationale applies.

Good luck with the new hospital.

Steve

PS. As for sport, soccer's another passion.....

Hi Roger,

Pleased to meet you. I note the intention to attract patients from the USA and Europe.

Are you looking at hospital accreditation, and if so are you open minded? I am with Trent Accreditation Scheme, the British group. Among others, the ACS have in 2009 been pretty open-minded about what constitutes good-quality dispassionate accreditation with respect to the accreditation process, discussing both JCI and Trent (please see http://www.facs.org/fellows_info/statements/st-65.html).

Please check out http://www.medicaltourismcity.com/group/theaccreditationofhospitalsandclinics.

Best wishes

Steve Green

PS. The UK still has a few links with Trinidad & Tobago (QE2 etc.), and we both play cricket (although the West Indies usually win) !!!
