Kerala, known as "God's Own Country" is the most literate state of India, most healthy and most beautiful. Kerala's highly developed, affordable, health care system attracts patients from all parts of the world.
Kerala, the name almost synonymous with the word 'Ayurveda', is now all set to reap the benefits of Ayurveda through health tourism. The reason for this is the popularity of Ayurvedic treatments and the manner in which Kerala is marketing Ayurveda in medical tourism.
Kerala has the advantages of recognition worldwide as one of the ten must-see destinations, as described by the National Geographic Traveller and a developed health care delivery system, which enables the state to attract patients from other countries.
Cruising in the vast expanse of the Backwaters of Alapuzha, known as Venice of the East, in the famed house boats itself is a very pleasant healing experience for the tourists.
Besides the traditional Ayurveda, Kerala also provides world class modern allopathic treatment at considerably low cost.

A recent news regarding an International Ayurvedic Summit being planned by FIICI is certainly a pointer towards the fact that industry big wigs look at this traditional treatment practices with all their seriousness to get themselves involved.
Equally encouraging was the news that the Birla Group plan to invest heavily in this sector, making Kerala the base, and start a chain of,200 or more, Birla Kerala Ayurvedic Centres acorss the country.
However, along with building up the business of Ayurveda, we should pay equal importance to protecting the traditional , from intrusion and corruption by applying modern tactics and techniques in this area of benevolent, holistic, healthy treatment practices. Availability of raw materials, preparation and mix and prescription of medicines, the style of treatment etc. are all areas where we need concern, to maintain quality. Simply increasing the volume of business does not mean that Ayurveda is progressing.
Qualified and competent doctors are also equally important. In traditional Ayurveda, a qualified doctor do practice not to make big business but to promote health and happiness in society.
We should, therefore, focus on the need of encouraging and promoting every single practicing Ayurvedic doctors in the state.
