Who are the industry leaders?
What countries should I focus on?
Where do the patients come from and how do I find them?
What do I need to know?
What books should I read?
What background or experience do I need?
Do I need a degree?
How can I fit in?
Where do I need to live?
Who should I talk to?

Any one entering a new field should have more questions than answers. If you think you know everything or most of what you need, you probably have little to offer and no idea about the depth or complexity of Medical Tourism.

If you are excited and willing to learn, you won't be disappointed and you will never be board.

Regardless of your background, education, experience or where you live, you can probably provide a service of some kind that is needed in this diverse industry.

The important thing is caring for others. If you are only looking at the industry as a place to make money, you are in the wrong place. There certainly is sufficient opportunity to earn income but the focus needs to be on providing service and fullfilling the needs of others. If you keep that in clear focus and work well with others you will be successful and will probably love Medical Tourism.

The focus is on giving cares and providing assistance as much as possible. As far as I have learned, I hope people in the industry would need to provide a balance information among countries for their patients to choose. It can be eaiser if the agent is in the US or where the international patients are from, but it is hard for the agents in the destinations not to try to persuade the international patients. That is why we need a research center to give advice in the right way. Eventually, word of mouth is the most potential tool.
Thanks for bringing up these points. There is a difference of view of course based on where you live and work and whether you are servicing inbound or outbound.

The more we know abouit both sides, the greater the service we can deliver.

Hi Cheri,
I'm in the process of contracting with different providers and wanted to know if you had any recommendations on how to credential the physicans and facilities abroad. I thought maybe there was a organization that would be able to verify credentials on an international level, but I've had no such luck. If you can provide any information on this subject I would greatly appreciate it.

Jacqueline,

Thank you for your excellent question. I'll ask Kiki to reply more directly to your question. She is more familiar with that area than I am. To me the most important thing is the credentials of the physician that you are working with and there skill level and experience with the particular procedure that will be performed. I believe there is too much reliance on the facility and often no knowledge as to what doctor will be performing the procedure and whether they are highly skilled or a trainee or anything in between. It is much easier to connect with a clinic by there is a wide range of skills of the doctors practicing in most hospitals and clinics and also there approach to medicine and how they work with the patient. It's also easier to assume that a highly renowned doctor is good at everything which is not practical. All doctors have varying skill levels with different procedures.

Where can we find demographics on med tourists? Who are they? What service do they need?
Thanks for starting this group. I think your energy is awesome.
