UAE and Jordan to lead the Middle East contingency at the Global Health and Medical Tourism Congress being held at LA this month, while 40 Countries from across the globe congregate to understand global impact of healthcare crises and US health care reform at congress
Almost 2000 international delegates including officials from 40 countries are coming together in LA to observe the current US healthcare trends and expected ramifications of proposed reforms on the global health sector, even while the American healthcare continues to struggle to seek interim solutions in wake of current crisis.
Official government representatives, insurance companies, healthcare associations, healthcare providers, medical tourism facilitators and tourism industry stalwarts from US, Europe, Asia, Africa Middle East and Asia are set to gather at The Global Health & Medical Tourism. The congregation is a flagship event of Medical Tourism Association (MTA), the US based not for profit organization working dedicatedly to set global standards for the burgeoning medical tourism industry.
Mr. Nasser Al Budoor, Minister’s Office and Director, International Affairs Ministry of Health UAE said, “Medical Tourism is a fast growing industry as patients travel from one country to another for high quality healthcare, providing many opportunities. Since this congress will play an important role in exchange of knowledge and resources, I will join to represent UAE and to learn, share and network with industry colleagues and experts.”
The congress assumes a greater significance for the Middle East health sector given that the region is poised comfortably between the east and the west and offers a high quality care at very competitive costs. For instance, a gastric bypass procedure cost ranges between Dh150,000 and Dh200,000 in US, ranges between from Dh100,000 to Dh125,000 in UK, while in the UAE it costs only between Dh45,000 and Dh65,000. The congress would offer a great opportunity for the Middle East sector to interact with the global best and further accelerate the growth.
“I will be visiting congress to acquaint myself with the latest trends and evaluate possibilities of further energizing medical tourism activities in Dubai. Emirates offer well regulated quality healthcare services along with tourism attraction and warm hospitality, which are core requirements of medical tourism business, and time is opportune to push for a greater participation at the global level.” said Laila Al Jassmi, Dubai Health Authority
President of Medical Tourism Association Renee Maries Stephano Said “Medical Tourism Industry is globally recognized as one of the fastest growing industries, and has weathered current financial meltdown afflicting hitherto considered to be key economic sectors. The congress comes at an appropriate time to provide necessary impetus to the sector through ushering a meaningful dialogue amongst the industry movers and shakers.”
She added, “The Congress will prearrange networking meetings to assist in the development of new relationships and valuable new contracts. The congress will feature 3 days of over 25 conference sessions by 200 renowned international speakers and 28 pre-conference workshops.”
'The region needs to evaluate and penetrate most potential target markets through not just strong marketing strategies and but by acquiring a deeper understanding of international health insurance and legal issues. Jordan and the UAE have launched ambitious initiatives to position themselves as serious world-class, cost-effective alternative destinations for the booming medical tourism market. It is in this context that the event assumes a greater significance for this region says Dr. Jagyasi, MD & CEO of ExHealth and Chief Strategic Officer – Medical Tourism Association, USA.
In 2009, the study estimated that as many as 3 million Americans could be traveling abroad and spending $4.4 billion, and by 2017, this number could reach 23.5 million Americans spending $79.5 billion US Dollars per year.
Medical Tourism Association (MTA) has initiated commendable activities for growth of this emerging industry by publishing world’s leading Medical Tourism Magazine, and by providing quality of care certificates.
