Many US bariatric patients are opting for surgery abroad due to the favorable costs versus what they pay here in the US. Surgeons, hospitals and medical tourism facilitators are naturally concerned about what happens to their patients once they return home to recover from surgery and what type of post op support they will receive to make their surgical tool work for life and not relapse.

International surgeons are very interested in how to effectively provide seamless post-op aftercare that keeps their patient engaged, engages the primary care doctor, and provides structured dietary and exercise planning that prevents weight regain/relapsing (soft calorie syndrome).

iBariHealth (www.ibarihealth.com) specializes in post operative aftercare programs specifically for US patients traveling abroad to obtain bariatric surgery. Dear Dr. Kevin Huffman,

Sounds like a much needed program. Do you work with a network of nurses around the country? Do they contact you on each case? And how do you charge?

David P. Kalin, M.D., Executive Director
International Board of Medicine and Surgery

Hello Dr. Kalin,

Thank you for your comments and questions. We have our own team of registered nurses, dieticians, and certified exercise specialists who are available around the country. They are apart of iBariHealth and when we have a patient, we dispatch them to the home to conduct the aftercare programs.

We partner with international hospitals/surgeons and medical tourism facilitators who standardize our aftercare program into their surgical package. This gives the patient the best and most comprehensive surgical experience possible. Our home care teams extensively document the progress/participation from the patient and those are available to the surgeon/staff for free 24/7 viewing/downloading on our site www.ibarihealth.com in the MyPatient area. Please let me know if you would like to set up a conference call to discuss your interest further.

Kind regards
Dr. Huffman

How long should a bariatric patient stay in the country after surgery before traveling again?
